New formulas relating the masses of some baryons and mesons

Sum rules relating the masses of ground-state baryons and mesons obtained in a constituent quark model, but it is argued that the formulas are more general than the model that motivates them. The relation of one of the formulas to heavy quark theory is discussed. Where precise data are available, the sum rules agree with experiment to better than 1%. One of the sum rules agrees with new preliminary measurements of masses of b-quark baryons.
