A gauge theory of one-dimensional anyons

A field theory with fractional statistics in one space dimension is presented. We couple the nonrelativistic matter fields to a gauge field that changes the statistics of the elementary quanta, as it happens for the Chern-Simons gauge theory in two dimensions.
