Abstract :
For the purpose of facilitating dynamical simulations of DCC formation in high-energy collisions, a semi-classical transport formulation is made of the linear σ model. A Wigner transform of the mean-field approximation to the classical field equation yields a Vlasov equation for the quasi-particle phase-space density which in turn can be solved by test-particle simulation. This treatment yields individual test particles moving with medium-modified effective masses self-consistently with the evolving local order parameter. The simulation treatment appears to be quantitatively useful, as is illustrated for a cylindrical fireball subject to a longitudinal Bjorken scaling expansion.
