The Quantum Limit of Timing Jitter in Actively Modelocked Lasers

We have achieved quantum-limited timing jitter performance in actively modelocked fiber and semiconductor lasers and developed a theoretical model. We have also shown how photon seeding can reduce the timing jitter in a modelocked semiconductor laser, and demonstrated a timing-jitter eater using phase modulation and group-velocity dispersion.
