A sufficient condition for the existence of an M-matrix with prescribed spectrum

A real n × n matrix A is said to be an M-matrix if there exists a nonnegative matrix B with maximal eigenvalue r such that A = αI — B, where α ≥ r. In this work, we present a sufficient condition for the existence of an M-matrix with prescribed complex spectrum.
