Parameter estimation in the 1-D transport equation with advection

We introduce a stable numerical method for the identification of the diffusion coefficient in a one-dimensional transport equation with advection, when noisy data at the active boundary and initial measured population density are given. This algorithm makes no assumption on the amount and/or character of the noise in the data. Several numerical examples are supplied to show the consistency of the scheme.
