Abstract :
The cytochrome P4501A induction was studied in liver and kidney of immature Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) after exposure to different dosages of benzo(a)pyrene (B(a)P) at low temperatures. Maximum induction was reached at day 5 in both organs, with highest values in the liver. No clear dose-response could be observed, possibly due to an extremely sensitive P450 system or a limited B(a)P absorption from the gut. The apparent sensitivity of both organs towards B(a)P exposure can be considered as advantageous for biomonitoring.
