On line surface roughness measurements using image processing towards an adaptive control

A new noncontact technique to asses the differences in surface chracteristics of machined surfaces is presented The method suggested here is based on a microcomputer vision system to analyse the pattern of scattered light from the surface to derive a roughness parameter during machining of the surface. This suggests that the system can be succesfuly applied to a machining process with adaptive control.
