Abstract :
Microarray technologyhasmadeitpossibletomonitortheexpressionlevelsofmanygenessimultane-
ously acrossanumberofexperimentalconditions.Fuzzyclusteringisanimportanttoolforanalyzing
microarray geneexpressiondata.Inthisarticle,areal-codedSimulatedAnnealing(VSA)basedfuzzy
clustering methodwithvariablelengthconfigurationisdevelopedandcombinedwithpopularArtificial
Neural Network(ANN)basedclassifier.TheideaistorefinetheclusteringproducedbyVSAusingANN
classifier toobtainimprovedclusteringperformance.Theproposedtechniqueisusedtoclusterthree
publicly availablereallifemicroarraydatasets.Thesuperiorperformanceoftheproposedtechniquehas
been demonstratedbycomparingwithsomewidelyusedexistingclusteringalgorithms.Alsostatistical
significance testhasbeenconductedtoestablishthestatisticalsignificanceofthesuperiorperformanceof
the proposedclusteringalgorithm.Finallybiologicalrelevanceoftheclusteringsolutionsareestablished.
