Abstract :
This paperdescribesindustrialaspectsofcombinedinventorymanagementandroutinginmaritime
and road-basedtransportation,andgivesaclassificationandcomprehensiveliteraturereviewofthe
currentstateoftheresearch.
The literatureiscontrastedwithaspectsofindustrialapplicationsfromaconstructive,butcritical,
viewpoint.Basedonthestatusandtrendswithinthefield,futureresearchissuggestedwithregardto
both furtherdevelopmentoftheresearchareaandindustrialneeds.Byhighlightingtheindustrial
aspects,practitionerswillhopefullyseethebenefitofusingadvanceddecisionsupportsystemsin
complexsituationsrelatedtocombinedinventorymanagementandroutingintheirbusiness.In
addition,aclassificationandpresentationoftheresearchshouldhelpandmotivateresearchersto
further focusoninventorymanagementandroutingchallenges.
