  • Abstract
    Considerasituationinwhichacompanysellsseveraldifferentitemstoasetofcustomers.However, the companyisnotsatisfiedwiththecurrentpricingstrategyandwishestoimplementnewpricesfor its items.Implementingthesenewpricesinonesinglestepmightnotbedesirable,forexample, becauseofthechangeincontractpricesforthecustomers.Therefore,thecompanychangestheprices gradually,suchthatthepriceschargedtoasubsetofthecustomers,thetargetmarket,donotdiffertoo much fromoneperiodtothenext.Weproposeapolynomialtimealgorithmtoimplementthenew pricesintheminimumnumberoftimeperiodsneeded,giventhatthepriceschargedtothecustomers in thetargetmarketincreasebyatmostafactor1þd, foragiven d40. Furthermore,weaddressthe problemofmaximizingtheoverallrevenueduringthepriceimplementationoveragiventimehorizon. For thisproblem,wedescribeadynamicprogramforthecaseofintegerpricevectors,andalocalsearch algorithmforarbitraryprices.Also,wepresentamixedintegerprogrammingformulationforthis problemandapplyouralgorithmsinapracticalstudy.
