Abstract :
This paperpresentsanewmodelforteamformationbasedongrouptechnology(TFPGT).Specifically,
the modelisappliedasageneralizationofthewell-knownMachine-PartCellFormationproblem,
which hasbecomeaclassicalprobleminmanufacturinginthelastfewyears.Inthiscase,themodel
presentedisespeciallywell-suitedforproblemsofteamformationarisinginR&D-orientedorteaching
institutions.Aparallelhybridgroupinggeneticalgorithm(HGGA)isalsoproposedinthepapertosolve
the TFPGT.TheperformanceofthealgorithmisshowninseveralsyntheticTFPGTinstances,andina
real problem:theformationofteachinggroupsattheDepartmentofSignalTheoryandCommunica-
tions oftheUniversidaddeAlcala´ in Spain.
