Abstract :
This paperpresentsalocationproblemontheplanewhereasingleservicefacilityandarapidtransit
line havetobesimultaneouslylocated.Therapidtransitlinerepresentsanalternativetransportation
line whichcanbeusedbyclientswheneveritprovidesacost-savingortime-savingservice,anditis
given byasegmentwithfixedandknownlength.Thistypeofproblemshasnotpreviouslybeen
consideredintheLocationTheoryliterature,asweareonlyawareoftheexistenceofmodelsthat
considerthelocationofservicefacilitiesinthepresenceofanalreadylocatedalternativetransportation
systemormodelsdealingwiththelocationofrapidtransitlinestominimizethetravellingtimeamong
a setofpoints.Tosolvethisproblemwewilldevelopanalgorithmbasedonsomecharacterizationsof
the objectivefunctionbehavior.
