Abstract :
This paperpresentsavariantofasparepartsinventorymodelwithcoldstand-byredundancyonsystem level.Redundancyonsystemlevelimpliesthatnotallsystemsneedtobeoperationalinordertohavethe wholesystemoperational.Thecoldstand-byfeatureimpliesthatonlytheminimumrequiredsystemsare operational.Inordertodetermineacosteffectivesparepartspackagesuchthatinacoldstand-by redundancysituationasufficientnumberofsystemsisoperationalforaspecifiedperiodweextendthe METRIC methodology.Tocomputetheprobabilitythatthenumberofoperatingsystemsduringthe operationalperiodissufficient,wepresentbothanexact,buttime-consumingmethod,andafast approximationmethodbasedonfittingdistributionsonthefirsttwomoments.Thisapproximation methodshowsverysmalldifferenceswhencomparedtotheexactmethod.Finally,wecompareboth methodstoasimulationmodelinordertotestthevalidityandimpactofourmodelling.
