Abstract :
The developmentsinmobilecommunicationtechnologiesareastrongmotivationforthestudyof
dynamicvehicleroutingandschedulingproblems.Inparticular,theplannedroutescanbequickly
modifiedtoaccountfortheoccurrenceofnewcustomerrequests,whichmightimplydivertingavehicle
away fromitscurrentdestination.Inthispaper,apreviouslydevelopedproblem-solvingapproachfora
vehicleroutingproblemwithdynamicrequestsanddynamictraveltimesisextendedtoaccountformore
sophisticatedcommunicationmeansbetweenthedriversandthecentraldispatchoffice.Computational
results arereportedtoempiricallydemonstratethebenefitsofthisextension.
