A Spectral Property of the Electrostatic Integral Operator

For an ellipsoid the eigenfunctions of the electrostatic integral operator and its adjoint are governed by the Lam´e polynomials. It is shown that the arithmetic mean of the eigenvalues corresponding to the maximum number of linearly independent eigenfunctions of equal order is the same for the ellipsoid as for the sphere.
