On the geometry of y(4) = f (x, y,y , y , y )

In this paper we use Cartan’s method to study the equivalence problem of fourth order ordinary differential equation with the flat model under contact transformations. As a result, we obtain simple explicit conditions for fourth order differential equation to be equivalent to the flat model under the considered group of transformations. © 2005 Elsevier Inc.
