A Note on Regularity of Sets and of Distance Functions in Banach Space

We show that in every infinite dimensional Banach space there is a compact set C and x in C such that C is regular at x (in the sense of nonsmooth analysis) but such that the associated distance function dC is not regular at x and neither is −dC.
