Linear Stability of a Solid Ball in an Undercooled Liquid

We study the linear stability of a solid ball in equilibrium with its undercooled liquid in two space dimensions. We show that the unstable manifold is one dimensional and consists of a special radially symmetric perturbation of the shape (and the temperature), whereas all the other perturbations orthogonal to the unstable perturbation are stable.
