Abstract :
Salinity stress is one of the most important limiting factors for crop production. In order to evaluate of 10 alfalfa ecotypes of Azarbayjan region of Iran for salinity stress tolerance, an experiment was conducted in the Agriculture and Natural Resources Research Center of East Azarbayjan, Khajeh station during 2009 and 2010. This experiment was conducted under salinity stress condition (EC=9.82 dsm-1). Therefore a randomized completely block design with three replications was carried out. Plants harvested in four turn (each year two harvest) and forage yield and its components were measured. All of the traits measured per plant and mean of four harvest calculated for each trait. Analysis of variance revealed significant differences among ecotypes for all the traits indicating genetic variation for salinity stress tolerance. Results of comparison of mean for traits showed Qara yonjeh has the most tolerance to salinity stress. The relationship of forage yield and yield components was investigated by calculating Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Fresh and dry weight of leaves and stems were significantly correlated with forage yield.
