Abstract
Inthecaseofahypotheticalcoredisruptiveaccident(HCDA)inaliquidmetalfastbreederreactor(LMFBR),itisassumedthatthecoreofthenuclearreactorhasmeltedpartiallyandthatthechemicalinteractionbetweenthemoltenfuelandtheliquidsodiumhascreatedahigh-pressuregasbubbleinthecore.Theviolentexpansionofthisbubbleloadsanddeformsthereactorvessel,thusendangeringthesafetyofthenuclearplant.Theexperimentaltestmara8simulatestheexplosivephenomenoninamock-upincludedinaflexiblevesselwithaflexibleroof.Thispaperpresentsanumericalsimulationofthetestandacomparisonofthecomputedresultswiththeexperimentalresultsandpreviousnumericalones.
