Abstract
Aseriesofexperimentsforfasttransientvoidbehaviorsduringcoldshutdownreactivity-initiatedaccidentsinlightwaterreactorshasbeenperformedwithasinglesimulatedfuelrodattheatmosphericpressure.Afast-responseimpedancetechniquewasappliedtothevoidfractionmeasurement.Itwasconfirmedthat,basedonthecomparisonwithX-raytechnique,theimpedancetechniquewascapableofmeasuringvoidfractionwithinanallowablerangeofaccuracyforfasttransienttwo-phaseflows.Experimentaldatawasaccumulatedconcerningtheonsetofnetvaporgeneration,localvoidfraction,watertemperatureandpressure.TheobservedtendencyontheonsetofnetvaporgenerationwasqualitativelyagreedwiththeSahaandZubermodel.However,themodeloverestimatedlocalwatersubcoolingattheonsetofnetvaporgeneration.Inletwatersubcoolinglargelyinfluencedthevariationoflocalvoidfraction.Itwasobservedthatlargerinletwatersubcoolingresultedinrepeatedgrowthandcollapseofvoidstosuppressacontinuousincreaseinvoidfraction.
