  • Abstract
    ThisstudyevaluatestheapplicabilityofeddycurrenttestingtothedetectionandsizingoffatiguecracksembeddedinInconelweldoverlays.Weldedplatespecimens,whichmodelheadpenetrationweldsandtheirweldoverlays,arefabricated,andfatiguecracksareartificiallyintroducedintothespecimens.Eddycurrentinspectionsareperformedusingauniformeddycurrentprobedrivenwith10 kHz,andallofthefatiguecracksaredetectedwithclearsignals.Subsequentnumericalinversionsestimatethattheminimumthicknessesoftheweldoverlaysare1.47,2.17,and2.23 mm,whereastruethicknessesrevealedthroughdestructivetestingare1.51,3.25,and2.10 mm,respectively.Thicknessesarealsoevaluatedusingpotentialdropandultrasonictestingmethods;theresultsdemonstratethateddycurrenttestingisthemostefficientofthethreemethods.
