Abstract
In-vesselrefloodingduringasevereaccidentinaPWRwasanalyzedin2000–2002byagroupofexpertswiththeaimtoprepareaglobalIRSNR&Dstrategytoanswerthecorrespondingpendingsafetyissues.Indeed,wateristodaysystematicallyinjectedifavailableduringasevereaccidentinaPWR.However,knowledgeonconsequencesofsuchaninjectionisnotcompleteandanswersarenecessaryforaccidentmanagementinpresentPWRaswellfordesignandsafetyanalysisoffuturePWR:isin-vesselcoriumretentionpossible?Whatisthekineticsofhydrogenproduction?Whatisthereactorcoolingsystem(RCS)re-pressurization?Isthereariskofsteamexplosion(steamexplosionisnotdiscussedinthispaper)?Whatistheimpactonsourceterm?Andmoregenerally,howtooptimizewaterinjection?(When?How?)R&Dneedsofinvestigationoftheseaspectswereidentified.Thisshouldcoverseparate-effectandintegraltests,aswellasmodelingandcodedevelopment.
