Abstract :
Plant-measureddataprovidedbytheOECD/NEAVVER-1000coolanttransientbenchmarkprogrammewereusedtovalidatetheDYN3D/RELAP5andDYN3D/ATHLETcoupledcodesystems.Phase1ofthebenchmark(V1000CT-1)referstoanexperimentthatwasconductedduringthecommissioningoftheKozloduyNPPUnit6inBulgaria.Inthisexperiment,thefourthmaincoolantpumpwasswitchedonwhilsttheremainingthreewererunningnormaloperatingconditions.Theexperimentwasconductedat27.5%ofthenominallevelofthereactorpower.Thetransientischaracterizedbyarapidincreaseintheprimarycoolantflowthroughthecore,andasaconsequence,adecreaseofthespace-dependentcoreinlettemperature.Thecontrolrodswerekeptintheiroriginalpositionsduringtheentiretransient.ThecoupledsimulationsperformedonbothDYN3D/RELAP5andDYN3D/ATHLETwerebasedonthesamereactormodel,includingidenticalmaincoolantpumpcharacteristics,boundaryconditions,benchmark-specifiednucleardatalibraryandnearlyidenticalnodalizationschemes.Inadditiontovalidationofthecoupledcodesystemsagainstmeasureddata,acode-to-codecomparisonbetweensimulationresultshasalsobeenperformedtoevaluatetherespectivethermalhydraulicmodelsofthesystemcodesRELAP5andATHLET.
