Abstract :
TheperidynamicmodeldescribedinSilling(Silling,S.A.,1998.ReformationofElasticityTheoryforDiscontinuousandLong-RangeForces,SAND98-2176.SandiaNationalLaboratories,Albuquerque,NM),beingacentral-forcemodel,islimitedtomodelingmaterialswithaPoissonʹsratioof1/4.Inthispaper,theperidynamicmodelisgeneralizedbyaddingpairwiseperidynamicmomentstosimulatelinearelasticmaterialswithvaryingPoissonʹsratios.Thenewmodeliscalledthe“micropolarperidynamicmodel”.Themicropolarperidynamicmodelisplacedwithinafiniteelementcontexttoenableefficaciousapplicationofboundaryconditionsandefficientcomputationalsolutionsusinganimplicit,ratherthananexplicitsolutionalgorithm.Theimplicitsolutionalgorithmissuitableforquasistaticsimulationofdamageandcrackinginconcretestructures.Withthisnewmodel,verysimpletensiledamagemechanismsatthemicrostructural(peridynamic)levelaresufficienttoexplainagreatdealofthemicrocracking(damage)andfracturemechanicsobservedinconcretestructures.Thenewimplementationappearstobecomputationallyefficient.
