Abstract :
AnumberofshaketabletestshadbeenconductedonthescaleddownmodelofaconcretewallaspartofCAMUSexperiment.Theexperimentswereconductedbetween1996and1998intheCEAfacilitiesinSaclay,France.BenchmarkingofCAMUSexperimentswasundertakenasapartofthecoordinatedresearchprogramon‘SafetySignificanceofNear-FieldEarthquakes’organisedbyInternationalAtomicEnergyAgency(IAEA).Techniqueofdeflection-basedmethodwasadoptedforbenchmarkingexercise.Non-linearstaticprocedureofdeflection-basedmethodhastwobasicsteps:pushoveranalysis,anddeterminationoftargetdisplacementorperformancepoint.Pushoveranalysisisananalyticalproceduretoassessthecapacitytowithstandseismicloadingeffectthatastructuralsystemcanofferconsideringtheredundanciesandinelasticdeformation.Outcomeofapushoveranalysisistheplotofforce–displacement(baseshear–top/roofdisplacement)curveofthestructure.Thisisobtainedbystep-by-stepnon-linearstaticanalysisofthestructurewithincreasingvalueofload.Thesecondstepistodeterminetargetdisplacement,whichisalsoknownasperformancepoint.Thetargetdisplacementisthelikelymaximumdisplacementofthestructureduetoaspecifiedseismicinputmotion.Establishedprocedures,FEMA-273andATC-40,areavailabletodeterminethismaximumdeflection.TheresponsesofCAMUStestspecimenaredeterminedbydeflection-basedmethodandanalyticallycalculatedvaluescomparewellwiththetestresults.
