Abstract :
Tomaintainthestructuralintegrityofsteamgeneratortubes,usually,40%ofwallthicknesspluggingcriterionhasbeenadopted.However,sincethecriterionisapplicableonlyforthesteamgeneratortubecontainingasinglecrack,theinteractioneffectofmultiplecrackscannotbeconsidered.Inthispaper,thecoalescencepressureoftubewithdualcracksisevaluatedbasedondetailedthree-dimensionalelastic–plasticfiniteelementanalyses.Intermsofthecrackconfiguration,collinearaxialthrough-wallcrackswithvariouslength,distanceandratiobetweenindividualcracksareselected.Theapplicabilityoffailurepressurepredictionmodelsrecentlyproposedbytheauthorswasverifiedbycomparingthefiniteelementanalysesresultswithcorrespondingexperimentaldatafortubeswithtwoidenticalcracks.Further,inordertoquantifytheeffectofcracklengthratioonfailurebehavior,thefailurepressurepredictionmodelwasusedexpansivelyfortubescontainingdifferent-sizedcracksandacoalescenceevaluationdiagramwasdeveloped.
