Abstract :
TheAP1000isastandarddesigndevelopedbyWestinghouseanditspartnersforanadvancednuclearpowerplantutilizingpassivesafetyfeatures.ThedesignhasbeencertifiedbytheUSNuclearRegulatoryCommissionbasedontheirreviewofseismicanalysesathardrocksites.Theplanthasfiveprincipalbuildingstructures:thenuclearisland,theturbinebuilding,theannexbuilding,thedieselgeneratorbuildingandtheradwastebuilding.Thenuclearislandconsistsofthecontainmentbuilding(thesteelcontainmentvesselandthecontainmentinternalstructures),theshieldbuildingandtheauxiliarybuilding.Thesestructuresarefoundedonacommonbasematandarecollectivelyknownasthenuclearisland.ThispaperdescribesshellandstickfiniteelementmodelsusedinfixedbasedynamicanalysesforthehardrockdesigncertificationusingthegeneralpurposefiniteelementprogramANSYS.Itdescribesacoarsershellmodeldevelopedforuseinsoilstructureinteraction(SSI)analyses.ThismodelisdevelopedinbothANSYSandthesoilstructureinteraction(SSI)programSASSI.ResultsofthethreetypesofmodelsfromANSYSanalysesarecomparedforahardrocksite.ResultsarealsocomparedbetweentheANSYSandSASSIanalysesforthesamemodel.
