Abstract :
In-coretemperaturemeasurementsarepivotalinmaintainingnuclearreactorsinasafestateofoperation.Thermocouplesserveastheliaisoninensuringthissafestate.Therealizationofthethermocoupleʹsfullpotentialishinderedbythefactthatthermocouplescannotbesituatedinareaswithhighradiationfields.Radiationhasthepotentialofgeneratingvoltagesinthethermocouplewires,henceproducinganerrorinthetemperaturetransmitteroutput.Inthispaper,amathematicalmodelisdevelopedtoquantifytheeffectthatradiationfromtheCanadaDeuteriumUranium(CANDU)NuclearPowerPlants(NPPs)hasonthethermocoupletemperaturereading.Subsequently,amethodtooffsettheeffectofradiationonthethermocoupleisproposed.Simulationisperformedtoverifytheeffectivenessoftheproposedsystem.
