Abstract
Anumericalmodelhasbeendevelopedtopredictearly-agecrackingformassiveconcretestructures.Takingintoaccountcreepatearly-ageisessentialifonewantstopredictquantitativelytheinducedstressesifautogenousorthermalstrainsarerestrained.Becausecreepstrainsmayrelaxinternalstresses,acreepmodelwhichincludestheeffectsofhydrationandtemperatureisused.Forthepredictionofcracking,asimpleelasticdamagemodelisused.Numericalsimulationsareperformedinordertopredictthebehaviourofamassivewallandaconcretecontainmentofanuclearpowerplant.Theyshowthatsignificantrelaxationofstresses(duetocreep)occursonlyafterabout10days,aftercrackingoccurs.Moreover,sincetemperatureinconcretemayreachimportantvaluesinmassiveconcretestructures,itappearsthateffectoftemperatureoncreepmustbetakenintoaccountforanaccuratepredictionofcracking.
