Abstract :
We numerically simulate the solution of the fourth order nonlinear partial differential equation describing the time evolution of particles during a sintering process. We use a transformation of variables to produce a standard set of computational formulas for using the method of lines. The formulas include the moving boundary feature and adaptive spatial meshes. The spatial discretization and implementation of boundary conditions are designed according to the characteristic features of the model. Our simulation results show that the method of lines can solve complicated problems in a relatively simple and fast way.
