An adaptive refinement strategy for hp-finite element computations Original Research Article

A refinement strategy for fully adaptive hp-finite element solution of elliptic boundary value problems is presented. The algorithm is based on the local regularity of the exact solution. A method is given for estimating the local regularity a posteriori. The performance of the algorithm is illustrated for some simple representative problems.
