De Bruijn sequences, irreducible codes and cyclotomy Original Research Article

We use the cycle join algorithm to generate de Bruijn sequences from irreducible cyclic codes. The number of sequences obtained by this construction is related to the cyclotomic numbers. A bound for the number of sequences that can be constructed is given, and we investigate some cases where the cyclotomic numbers are explicitly known.
