Abstract :
The impact of forced displacement migration on economic livelihood was studied in a survey among 153 displaced families in Tunga County of upper Nile state. It involved face to face interviews and the use of questionnaires. Most of the respondents were illiterate Dinka and Nuer. Results showed that, the majority of household depend on income derived from livestock sales, besides, fish and crop sales and from casual wages. The bulk of income was spent on restocking and family welfare. Some families had access to markets, schools, health services and employment opportunities. But, extensive agriculture and grazing were limited by land mines, land tenure and raids. Expansion of employment opportunities would improve livelihood strategies.
