Abstract :
ABSTRACT: Herding and farming dairy cow in Sistan faces low productivity and many other challenges which could be a result of lack of a good development plan based on resistance-economy management. The main purposes of this research are to identify the Strengths, Opportunities, Weaknesses, and Threats which dairy production farms of Sistan face and also to provide valid solutions for economic management of livestock farms. According to the present status, using a questionnaire in which 100 farmers contributed, 10 strengths, 13 weaknesses, 10 opportunities, and 12 threats are identified; these are included the following categories: policy and management, financial performance, investment, production, land and pasture, animal health, family and lifestyle, and climate. Weight sums, the averages, relative weight, and the rate for each of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats were calculated based on the farmers’ viewpoints and SWOT matrix for competitive strategies (SO), overview strategies (WO), variety strategies (ST), defense strategies (WT) were drawn. In this study, the most important strength factor was identified to be the low death rate of livestock and the most important weakness was low investment. Also, demand for milk among households is the most important opportunity factor and intermittent drought is the most important threat factor. According to empirical data analysis in the region, vulnerability threshold of dairy farms is very high and they are in need of overview strategies and proper policies to be able to cope with limitations and make use of available relative advantages.
