Abstract :
The 1993 Austrian Environmental Impact Act established a new regulatory framework for major developments and projects likely to have a significant impact on the environment. Pivotal elements of the new legislation are the environmental impact assessment, the participation of citizensʹ groups, and a consolidated permit procedure. This article examines the policy background and the legal provisions of the 1993 Act.
