The primary structure of the acidic capsular antigen of Escherichia coli O8:K41:H11 was shown by monosaccharide analysis, methylation analysis, and by 1D and 2D 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy to be composed of branched pentasaccharide repeating units with the structure:
