The primary structure of the acidic capsular antigen of Escherichia coli O9:K33:H− was shown by glycose analysis, methylation analysis, and by 1D and 2D 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy to be composed of branched tetrasaccharide repeating units with the structure:
