Abstract :
Our purpose in the current study was to determine alterations in anti-oxidative enzymes activity, protein and ascorbic acid content from Prosopis juliflora leaves exposed to air pollution, using two sites; control (unpolluted) and polluted (around one of the oil fields in south west of Iran). The results indicated that the activity of peroxidase, ascorbate peroxidase and catalase in leaves samples in response to pollution stress increased. The increases in activity of peroxidase and catalase were significant (p < 0.01). The content of protein in polluted leaves significantly (p < 0.01) decreased, while ascorbic acid levels increased in response to pollution. This changes all suggesting the activation of protective mechanisms in these plants under air pollution stress, and also the plants make physiological and biochemical adjustments to compensate for that environmental stress.
