A note on the development and use of pesticides

The pesticides that are developed and used in the future will emerge against the backdrop of the externalities associated with the use of pesticides and government policies designed to control these externalities. In the final analysis, farmersʹ choices on pesticides will be influenced by the prevailing costs and benefits of pesticides and their alternatives. Additionally, three areas that serve potentially to impact pesticide use which in turn will affect the development of new pesticides include pesticide regulation, the management of ecologically-based systems, and consumer demand for ‘green’ products.
