Abstract :
The decay effects provoked by marine aerosol on architectonic surfaces of monuments are examined. Marine aerosol is one of the most significant components that make up the atmospheric particulates, and it intensifies the processes of weathering particularly in coastal areas through the effects of wet and dry deposition on the stone of monuments. The decay forms and the nature of neoformation salts on outdoor and indoor surfaces of monuments from the coastal region of Apulia (South Italy) have been investigated with regard to their geographical location and distance from the sea.
