Abstract :
An undergraduate digital signal processing (DSP) laboratory at Western Michigan University (WMU) is described. A sequence of hands-on laboratory experiments using Texas Instruments DSP evaluation modules has been incorporated into the existing DSP undergraduate course. The main objectives are to enhance the studentsʹ understanding of the theory taught in class, provide experience with DSP implementation issues, and to increase their interest and participation in this important field of electrical and computer engineering. A description of the course, laboratory sessions, and supporting tools are described. To monitor the acceptance and success of the new laboratory, student assessments and evaluations have been collected and are briefly discussed.
