Growth of a surface film on copper from benzotriazole solutions

The growth of a polymeric film of copper-benzotriazolate on copper surface has been investigated using surface-enhanced Raman scattering, ultraviolet, and infrared spectroscopies. The thickness of the surface film was measured through the use of UV spectroscopy by transferring it into a dilute acid solution. The mechanism of the growth of the surface film and the influence of the pH values of the medium have been discussed.
