Abstract :
CuCl growth on the reconstructed (0001) haematite (α-Fe2O3) surface was studied by low energy electron diffraction (LEED), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Auger electron spectroscopy and electron energy loss spectroscopy. Two surface structures with CuCl(111) and CuCl(111) R30° were found by LEED at lower coverage. In case of higher coverage, the CuCl is grown in one-dimensional disorder. An interaction between Cu 3d from CuCl and O 2p from substrate is presumed. CuCl with (111) structure on the reconstructed substrate is more thermally stable than that with (111) R30° structure.
