Field emission from transition metal nitride

In connection with the fluctuating properties of the field emission current of Nb2N and TiN, effect of the surface chemical composition was examined. Flashing above a certain temperature results in dramatic change in the field emission properties. In accordance with this fact, a decrease of the surface nitrogen content was observed in the spectrum measured by means of AES.
