Abstract
The surface structure of polycrystalline palladium prepared by the surface treatments using Arq ion sputtering and
flash-annealing is characterized by using UHV-STM. The 001., 110.and 111.planes are simultaneously observed on a
specimen. A 2ʹ2 =3ʹ2.structure on 001.plane, n=1.structure on 110.plane, and 2ʹ3 =2ʹ3.and ʹ7 =ʹ7.
structures on 111.plane are identified. It is considered that impurities caused these structures. q1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
