The polarization behavior of mild steel in ethanol/water/sulfuric acid system

The corrosion behavior of mild steel was investigated in 0.1 M H2SO4 solutions in the presence of water and ethanol in different ratios, by the help of anodic and cathodic polarization curves. The passivity of mild steel was found to be markedly dependent upon the acid concentration. The polarization curves obtained in concentrated acid solutions containing ethanol were significantly different from those obtained in ethanolic solutions having lower acid concentration. The passivity currents were lower than those observed in aqueous solutions.
