The following analysis is dealt with the concept of mediation in international arena in order to situate the idea and process of third party role within a broader model of conflict resolution. In the first place, by considering the concept of conflict in social and politic terms, the importance of third party intervention has been discussed. In the second phase, character of third party in three levels: individuals, states, and institutions and organizations have been explained. In the final part of the paper, the effectiveness of mediation actions has been defined in terms of success or failure of third party intervention.
