The thermal and mechanical properties of plasticized PVC with epoxidized soya bean oil(PVC-ESSO) are studied. The repulsive interactions are used to explain the effect of epoxidization on the modulus of PVC with ESSO and plasticizer. The glass transition temperature of PVC is a linear function of the epoxidization of ESSO plasticizer.
The activation energies of stabilized PVC/ESSO is also influenced by dehydrorochlorination
reaction and HCI evolution. Addition of ESSO improves thermal behaviour of PVC. The higher activation energies of Ca-Zn, Ba-Zn stabilizers are responsible for the stability of PVC-ESSO. The epoxidization level of ESSO also improves the mechanical properties and thermal stability of PVC.
